The Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington has had a busy month! We hosted an open house for our new office space, gave out books with the Read to Grow Bookmobile, and held a Car Seat Safety Check with the Southington Police Department. We hope you will march with us in the Apple Harvest Parade next month or stop by one of our other upcoming events! Don't miss out on RAPID Survey #6 to receive an incentive like the previous surveys; more details below. |

Bicycle Safety and Helmet Law Reminders |
Effective October 1st, 2025, the age requirement for children wearing helmets while riding bicycles, scooters, skateboards, roller skates, and inline skates increases from under 16 years to under 18 years. The minimum requirements for helmets include the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standard and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard. In addition to the updated age requirements for helmets, CT House Bill 6862 will also go into effect. This bill aims to (1) redefine "electric foot scooter" and "motor-driven cycle", (2) specify electric vehicles that do meet the definition of electric bicycles, and (3) make selling or advertising such electric vehicles as electric bicycles an unfair or deceptive trade practice. The Glastonbury Police Department has put together a great chart to explain the differences between e-bikes, motor-driven cycles, and motorcycles. You can find the chart (below) along with other resources at www.southingtonearlychildhood.org/health-development/bicycle-safety/. |
