Kindergarten Registration Information Session 2018

Presented by the Southington Public Schools. Parents/guardians from across Southington, Plantsville, Marion and Milldale, regardless of which elementary school their students will attend, are invited to this session to hear general information about the registration process for Southington Public Schools and the day-in-the-life of a kindergartner.  This session is for adults, you can leave your future kindergartner at home.

The ECCS will be attending and can help answer questions about preschool readiness and enrichment activities.

You do not need to register for this event.

If school or evening activities are cancelled on 1/29 the snowdate is Wednesday, 1/31.

Workshop: Special Needs Support for Young Children

Early identification and support of developmental delays and issues is crucial for the health and well-being of young children.  This free ECCS workshop will discuss:

  • Support programs for young children including Birth to Three and the Early Childhood Consultation Partnership (ECCP)
  • Transitioning to the programs provided by the Southington Public School (SPS) system and what the school system offers
  • Screenings, qualifying for services and the Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Related rights, rules and regulations

Health Family Funfest 2018

Join the ECCS at the 9th annual Healthy Family Funfest on Sunday, February 25, 2018.  This is an exciting and fun-filled day with health information, speakers, screenings, demonstrations, and activities for everyone from children to seniors. The Southington Lions Club will be doing free eye screenings for children.

Workshop: Pretend Play, Brain Growth and the Outdoors

Parents and Providers are invited to this workshop on Pretend Play, Brain Growth and the Outdoors.
Hear why pretending and playing outdoors are so important for brain growth.

The speaker is Erin Akers, M.Ed., Director of Education and Development, at the Gesell Institute of Child Development, Yale University. “Since beginning work with Gesell in 2010 as a National Lecture Staff member, Erin Akers has been an integral part of Gesell’s leadership team. Erin’s ability to fully utilize her first-hand experiences in roles such as classroom teaching, school administration, professional development, and a parent of four brings immeasurable value to Gesell as an organization. Being a career educator, Erin also works tirelessly to engage everyone around her in meaningful learning that progresses toward a better learning environment for all young children. From developing teaching tools to motivating her trainees and beyond; Erin builds a foundation for the institute to grow stronger each day, just as she has done for so many children throughout her career.”

Free childcare will be provided by the Southington YMCA. Note the YMCA Learning Center is located across the street from the main YMCA campus. Location is subject to change based on number of registrations.

Nursery School Showcase 2018

The Southington Library and Museum will hold their 12th annual Nursery School Showcase on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  This is targeted at children who have not yet signed up for the fall of 2018 and for those who will start in the fall of 2019 or 2020.
The ECCS, along with many of the nursery schools and preschool centers in town, will have a display.  Stop by and visit us.

ECCS Annual Meeting and Presentation

The Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington (ECCS) will host a presentation about issues around Early Childhood in Southington during their Annual Meeting on Tuesday morning, May 15, 2018 at the Southington Library. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 am. The program will run from 8 to 9 am.

A brief election of the ECCS Board of Directors will also take place.  Community members who are interested in joining the Board can contact the ECCS director.

There is no charge to attend. Registration will open in the spring.
