The ECCS is hosting a workshop on the impact of Childhood Trauma on behavior and health.

This is for parents, childcare providers and anyone in the community who wants to learn more about the short and long-term impacts of trauma.

Attendees will learn:

  • What is childhood trauma (violence, divorce, separation, drug use in family, etc.)
  • Why it is important to learn about it
  • Impacts on brain development, behavior and long-term health outcomes.
  • ACES study
  • What to do and how to help when dealing with someone exposed to childhood trauma

We will also discuss where do we go from here to become a more trauma-informed community.

The speaker is Carol O’Connor, LCSW, Senior Project Coordinator at the Child Health and Development Institute (CHDI) and National TF-CBT Trainer. She has many years of experience providing clinical services to children and families, consultation to agencies and school systems throughout the state and in the implementation and training of Evidence Based Practices for the treatment of childhood trauma.

The Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut is a not-for-profit organization established to improve the health and well-being of children by advancing system, policy, and practice changes. CHDI helps children reach their full potential by building stronger health, mental health, and early care systems that provide a sturdy foundation so children can thrive.
