Press Release

January 2015

The Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington (ECCS) was recently awarded a grant of $4,500 from the Women and Girls’ Fund of the Main Street Community Foundation to support five Southington family childcare providers in their pursuit of family childcare accreditation from the National Association of Family Child Care (NAFCC). Currently, in the entire State of CT, only two family childcare providers have achieved this level of accreditation. When these five Southington family childcare providers attain this accreditation, Southington will be in the forefront in the entire state by having a significant number of NAFCC accredited home based childcares.

One of the primary goals of the ECCS is to “advocate for high quality preschool and childcare.” Many women who choose to operate a family childcare program from their homes do it because they enjoy working with young children and need to contribute financially to their own families. Having NAFCC accreditation will allow these providers to offer the highest level of childcare standards in their home based childcare locations.

The ECCS is comprised of a group of committed educators, parents, childcare providers, healthcare providers, community leaders and business owners who are deeply invested in the growth, development and education of young children in the community of Southington.

The Main Street Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for both present and future generations in the communities served by encouraging and promoting gift planning, prudent stewardship of assets, effective grant making and community leadership. A nonprofit public charity, created by private citizens, the foundation works with donors who wish to build permanent charitable endowments to support the communities of Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott. The Women and Girls’ Fund taps into the power of women to strengthen their communities by supporting programs for women and girls that focus on career planning, money management, finance, parenting, volunteerism, and healthy lifestyle choices.
