empowerHER
empowerHER was formed in 2013 as a grassroots movement in a small coastal town in Massachusetts by founder Cara Belvin. In an effort to bring teenage girls together on Mother’s Day weekend, and simply build community for girls + women who could relate to the loss of their mothers, word quickly spread across the country. Today, empowerHER provides an integrated series of programming year-round, at no charge to the family, in the United States and the United Kingdom.
They now serve all children and young adults of any parent loss.
Events are community-based, volunteer-driven and non-therapeutic and serve to remind children that they are not alone in their grief.
Their mentor program consists of caring + strong adult role models who have also experienced parent loss and help show them that loss is survivable.
